Thank you so much Natarinka for adding this comment! I was just checking the same one my own. The more, his parents met first when singing together in the zarzuela “Sor Navarra” which was only published in 1936.

Dear Mr.Wilson,

I did some digging after my first comment on your ‘false-age’ attack on Mr.Domingo and found something very interesting: His mother, Pepita Embil, was born on 28-02-1918. According to your acusation, this means that she was only 15 years old, married and already a wellknown Zarzuela-singer, when she gave birth to Mr.Domingo…! I see this as an affront to the Domingo-family.

Herr Bastiano, Ihre ziemlich verunglimpfenden Äußerungen über einen weltweit sehr geschätzten Künstler sind inzwischen hinlänglich kommentiert worden. Dazu will ich nur noch ergänzen, dass Ihre Äußerung über die “long discussion on both Domingos birth certificate (church and official) which both were regarded as not clean if you do understand what I mean” einer Anschuldigung zur Urkundenfälschung durch Herrn Domingo oder der Familie Domingo gleichkommt – dies finde ich außerordentlich gewagt und unverschämt!
Erlauben Sie mir darüber hinaus noch eine kurze Bemerkung zu dem von Ihnen so minutiös sezierten Schlußapplaus nach der Otello-Vorstellung am 30.06.1991 in Wien. Ich war selber anwesend, habe mir die Hände wund geklatscht vor Begeisterung und Tage später noch Muskelkater gehabt. Wie wenig muss Sie diese außergewöhnliche Vorstellung berührt haben, wenn Sie mit der Stoppuhr und dem Notizzettel im Publikum gestanden haben, um jedes Hervortreten der einzelnen Personen so genau erfassen zu können – denn aus dem Erinnerungsvermögen heraus wird das bei 80 Minunten wohl kaum möglich gewesen sein.

PS: Domingo hat in Interviews bez. der Met Eröffnungen immer wieder selbst gesagt, dass Caruso nur 48 Jahre alt wurde. Nicht die Aussagen der Presse mit denen des Tenors verwechseln.
Und ehrlich gesagt ist es völlig wurscht, ob er nun 68 oder 75 ist. Hier gilt’s der Kunst.

Dear Mr Wilson,

the business is extremely difficult and my respect for working with singers and artistic directors for 40 Years.
But you probably also work with the WNO and L.A. Opera. I don’t find it very appropriate to write about their General Manager the way Mr Bastiano does. Would he also tell that into Mr Domingo’s face or use his real name here?
The two must have met several times…what was Mr Bastiano’s behaviour like? I am sure he was thrilled as we all are opposite Mr Domingo even if we may have arguments against him.

Dear Gottfried, on behalf of Mr. Franco Bastiano, whose personal assistant I am, I would like to point out that his beeing in this very difficult business for 40 Years is the result of serious sensitive and sensible work. No important opera house would indeed work with agents that do not know there jobs, that are not serious and reliable, and of course no such singers would work with agents that you do probably know from bad novels or TV-Soaps, but be assured the world of opera works with a different demand. And one other thing. Mr. Bastiano works with italian, american, spanish, german, french and south-american singers in the first place. 18 of the most famous singers of opera world today belong to his clients.

schön das es noch Künstleragenten wie Sie gibt, die es mit den Zahlen so genau nehmen!
-vermutlich würden Sie aber, wie alle anderen Agenten auch, ihre Großmutter verkaufen um solch ein Talent wie Domingo in den Heerscharen von russischen oder koreanischen Wettbewerbssiegern zu entdecken und zu verpflichten…
Ich will Sie aber mit meinem kurzen Einspruch nicht aufhalten-sie müssen ja schnell zur MET..!

I forgot to say: there are only three opera houses in the United states that are of any fame and worldwide reputation. These are the Metropolitan Opera in New York of course with its 130 years of tradition, The Lyric Opera of Chicago and The San Francisco Opera both also with a long tradition. The opera houses of Los Angeles and Washington are, how do you say in German: zweitrangig.

Domingo is that known worldwide that he is’nt checked by anyone anywhere anymore. At no border, not because of medals, not elsewhere. And in case he is, he shows his mexican passport which is accepted but shows the wrong birthdate. Bastiano is right.
